Pull Push Inside 'V-90°' - Static Ball Control Drills for U8-U9

Tutorial

This is a basic and very effective move for even very young players to apply during a game to change direction, to pull away a ball when the ball is between the player and opponent or to circumvent the stretched leg of a defending opponent.

When starting with the right foot:

(Switch left and right below when starting with the left foot)

  1. Stand behind the ball (45° angle to the left).
  2. Pull the ball with the right foot.
  3. Immediately after and at the same time:
    1. Jump on the support foot (left) to turn the body in the direction where the ball should be pushed to (right side).
    2. Turn the right hip open to be ready to push the ball.
  4. Push the ball with the inside of the right foot at a 45° angle to the right.
  5. Pull the ball with the left foot.
  6. Immediately after and at the same time:
    1. Jump on the support foot (right) to turn the body in the direction where the ball should be pushed to (left side).
    2. Turn the left hip open to be ready to push the ball.
  7. Push the ball with the inside of the left foot at a 45° angle to the left.
  8. Continue steps 2-7.

Things to watch out for:

  1. Don't stand rigid on the legs but flex the knees a bit.
  2. After the pull, the support foot should be replaced more or less in the direction where the ball should be pushed to.
  3. Make sure there is enough space to push the ball in the other direction. The more the support foot is replaced to the back, the more force can be applied on the support foot after the push to accelerate away.
  4. The complete move performed left and right should describe an angle of at least 90°.
