Step-On Pull Turn - Wall Work Drills for U10-U11

When starting with the right foot:

(Switch left and right below when starting with the left foot)

  1. Stand behind the ball (ball in front of right foot).
  2. Pass the ball to the wall with the inside of the right foot.
  3. Reposition fast to be lined up correctly to receive the ball with the right foot.
  4. Step forward to touch the ball with the inside of the right foot.
  5. Close in on the ball.
  6. Step on the ball with the sole of the right foot to stop it.
  7. Pull the ball backwards with the sole of the right foot.
  8. At the same time:
    1. Jump on the left foot (support foot) to reposition the right foot.
    2. Turn to the left.
  9. Pass the ball to the wall with the inside of the left foot.
  10. Reposition fast to be lined up correctly to receive the ball with the left foot.
  11. Step forward to touch the ball with the inside of the left foot.
  12. Close in on the ball.
  13. Step on the ball with the sole of the left foot to stop it.
  14. Pull the ball backwards with the sole of the left foot.
  15. At the same time:
    1. Jump on the right foot (support foot) to reposition the left foot.
    2. Turn to the right.
  16. Continue steps 2-15.

Things to watch out for:

  1. Don't stand rigid on the legs but flex the knees a bit.
  2. Reposition to receive the ball straight.
  3. Step forward upon receiving without swinging the leg. Timing is important.
  4. Touch the ball at the middle. Avoid to let it drop dead or jump away.
  5. Perform a step-on first, then pull.
  6. Turn in place fast while the ball travels in the opposite direction.
  7. Pull left -> turn right (and vice versa). This is the fastest way to turn without the need for an extra step in between.
